Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding has been shown to be the best form of infant nutrition, providing a multitude of health benefits to both child and mother. Mothers who are able to breastfeed their children are encouraged to do so for as long as they desire.
Amy & Kids Co. Supports Breastfeeding
Amy & Kids Co. is proud to be the first family child care program to earn the Breastfeeding Friendly Child Care Center designation in Outagamie County. As a mother who breastfed all of my children, I am eager to provide the support you need to continue your breastfeeding relationship with your child while he/she is in my care.
Handling of Breastmilk
I am trained in the proper storage and handling of breast milk. All breast milk should be sent in tightly sealed containers labelled with the child's name and the date it was pumped. You may send breast milk frozen or ready-to-use in bottles or a container. To ensure that your child will have an adequate supply for extra-hungry days, please provide a back-up supply for the freezer.
Bottles and the Breastfed Baby
I use the Paced Feeding method, which mimics the breastfeeding experience so your baby doesn't experience “nipple confusion” or issues with “flow preference.”
Many exclusively breastfed infants are reluctant to accept a bottle, especially one offered by a stranger in a new and unfamiliar environment, so your help is critical to ensure a successful transition from breast to bottle! Please be sure your child receives one full bottle feeding at least once a day for seven consecutive days before his/her first day of attendance. This will help your child become comfortable feeding from a bottle and ensure that he/she will receive adequate nutrition during the day.
Breastfeeding Support Resources
I am in contact with local breastfeeding support and keep a resource file of up-to-date information about breastfeeding and area breastfeeding resources. This information is available to all families, whether they choose to breastfeed or use bottles. In addition, toys and books that promote breastfeeding and portray it as normal are constantly available for the children's use.
